Good News Camp
Lockerly Water Farm Hampshire
Sunday August 19th to Thursday August 23rd 2012
What is it?
'Good News' Camps are packed with interest and provide excellent value for money. Campers are given the opportunity to explore new places, meet new friends, and take part in exciting activities! Organised Camp activities include onsite sports and art and craft sessions, plus trips into the New Forest, a jaunt to the beach and a splash in a nearby swimming pool. During 'free time' campers can just 'chill out' or use the onsite facilities e.g. snooker, table-tennis, volleyball, badminton, football and a variety of board games.
At the beginning of the week all campers are placed into teams and healthy competition is encouraged throughout the week. Teams will compete with each other in a whole range of fun based activities, scoring points and trying to make sure they are the team who will win the team prize at the end of the week!
Note: These Camps are Christian based. That means that each day all campers take part in various forms of Bible study and prayer. The main learning time takes place in an action packed, fast paced programme called 'T.G.S.' (The God Slot). This event includes singing, quizzes, Bible readings, competitions, prayers, fun spots, video stories and a short talk.
Where is it?
'Good News' Camps are held at Lockerley Water Farm, near Romsey in Hampshire.
The site is owned and managed by The Hampshire Christian Trust a registered charity. (Registered Charity Number 900042).
When does it happen?
This year's 'Good News' Camp will run from Sunday 19th to Thursday 23rd August 2012. It will start at 4.00pm on Sunday afternoon and finish at 1.00pm on Thursday.
Who can go?
'Good News' Camps are for anyone between the ages of 8 to 15 years (this a wide age range and we hope it will enable parents to send siblings together).
What about accommodation?
'Good News' Camps provide two types of accommodation. Some campers will sleep in large tents and some campers will sleep in purpose-built trailers. The trailers have built-in toilet and shower facilities. Those using the tents can use the nearby toilet and shower facilities.
Note: Two Camp officers sleep in the same tent/trailer as the campers. These officers are called 'Tent Leaders' and provide help and support for their campers.
What about food?
'Good News' Camps use their own cooks to provide all meals. The campsite has a large permanent building called 'The Barn'. All meals are cooked in the well equipped kitchen and served by our staff to the campers in the dining area.
Note: Although campers will not have to cook any meals (the kitchen area is out of bounds for campers) they are expected help with various chores e.g. washing up their plates & cutlery, wiping down tables, picking up litter etc.
What do they need to bring?
- Sleeping gear; pajamas, pillow, sleeping bag, blanket and something to sleep on e.g. air/camp type bed or roll mat.
- Change of clothes (at least one)
- Sun cream and wet weather gear (e.g. waterproof coat, wellies - just in case!)
- A good torch.
- Swimming gear & towel.
- Towel & toiletries.
- A small amount of spending money (A daily tuck shop is on site, ice cream on the trips out etc), campers can keep their money safe in the camp bank.
- Bible, notebook and pen.
How much does it cost?
The cost to attend Camp is £65 per camper. This will cover everything including all meals and transport and entry fees for any offsite activities.
Note: Transport to the campsite is NOT included! Each person is required to make their own way to and from the campsite. Lifts from other people attending may well be available, contact Gordon or Penny for further information.
Booking: To book a place on Camp click on the booking link at the bottom of the page.
What are the rules?
'Good News' Camps expect the same sort of standards of behaviour that children are required to show at school. Throughout the week campers will be given information that will be for their and other camper's safety and enjoyment.
Although we are not anticipating any major problems, in the event of misbehaviour our policy would be:
- To verbally correct a child.
- To place a child on extra chores.
- To phone a parent/guardian and inform them concerning their child's behaviour.
- To ask the parent/guardian to remove their child from camp.
A more detailed description of camp rules and regulations are available on request.
Note: When travelling off-site minibuses will be used, these are equipped with seat belts and we require that they be used on all occasions. All minibuses will have adequate adult supervision.

Friday August 24th (evening) to Monday August 27th 2012
What is it?
'The 2:42 Experience' a gathering place for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience 'teaching, worship, prayer and fellowship' (see Acts chapter 2 verse 42).
Whether on your own, with members of your church, or with family and friends, come and be inspired!
'The 2:42 Experience' is a self-catering weekend, so you will need to bring your own caravan or tent. Note: some limited accommodation is available on a 'first come' basis for those who need it.
'The 2:42 Experience' is held in the Hampshire countryside at Lockerley Water Farm, near Romsey. This quiet setting allows you to unwind and either laze onsite or visit some of the nearby attractions.
Each day we get together for a time of worship and Bible teaching where we look forward to God encouraging, challenging and building us up in our Christian faith.
On Saturday & Sunday evenings there is an activity based around a fun theme. This year's theme will be 'Olympic' so why not come dressed for the occasion and join in the fun and games!
'The 2:42 Experience' is an inter-church event run by 'Counties' Hampshire (see inside back cover for more information).
Booking Information
Fees for the 'The 2:42 Experience' are deliberately kept as low as possible. This event is run as part of our service for God, we want to see him glorified as his Church is encouraged, challenged and built up. We are therefore happy to just 'break even' if it makes this weekend affordable to all! Our financial aim is simply to cover our costs!
The fees for 2012 are:
- Adults and over 16s £25
- Under 16s £15
- Under 3s no charge
Note: An additional £5 per person is charged for late bookings (after July 31st 2012).
Please click on the link at the bottom of the page to book a place.
Things on site!
- Showers, flush toilets and water are available on site.
- Fridges and freezers are available for everyone to use during the weekend. Food must be named clearly!
- A cold kitchen is available for use, it contains constant hot water, a microwave and toasters.
- A mega second-hand bookstall is open throughout the weekend. Each book 50p each, some even cheaper!
- A Tuck Shop is open at various times for you to stock up on those 'essential' goodies.
- There will be a children's (4 to 12 year olds) programme during the main teaching sessions.
- Teenagers can join with us and enjoy the main worship & teaching sessions.
Things you need to know!
- Saturday & Sunday evening entertainment will be based around an 'Olympic' fun theme, come dressed for the occasion and enjoy the entertainment!
- Do not pitch your tent or caravan until you have checked in. On arrival, please check in by speaking to Gordon Curley or Jill Kemp.
- Tents and caravans, for safety reasons, will need to be in rows with easy access for an emergency vehicle (i.e. rather than a cluttered group).
- A 'safety distance' of fifteen feet between caravans and tents is required, please note: you will be asked to move your habitation if this is ignored.
- Car drivers please note a 10 mph speed limit is in operation on the camp site, drivers caught breaking this will be asked to leave their vehicles off site.
- Please dispose of your rubbish carefully and thoughtfully. There are separate bins on site for glass, tins, cardboard, plastic bottles and general rubbish.
- Smoking is not permitted on site.
- No pets! (there are grazing animals nearby).
- Because of the sites location and in consideration of young families, there will be no noise after 11.00pm.
Please do not invite 'outside' friends to 'visit', rather encourage them to join with us over the whole weekend. ALL visitors must report to the office or the weekend hosts (see inside back page). We put into practice a Child Protection Policy and therefore we MUST know who is on site at all times!
Youth Groups
'The 2:42 Experience' is aimed mainly at families but youth groups are welcome to join with us over the weekend, provided they are willing to comply with the following guidelines:
- Each group must have at least one leader over 18 who 'if necessary' will be held responsible for their group's behaviour.
