{"id":4572,"date":"2014-12-11T14:23:39","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T13:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gcurley.info\/news\/?p=4572"},"modified":"2014-12-11T14:26:35","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T13:26:35","slug":"third-of-kids-dont-know-christmas-is-about-jesus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gcurley.info\/news\/2014\/12\/third-of-kids-dont-know-christmas-is-about-jesus\/","title":{"rendered":"Third of kids don\u2019t know Christmas is about Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Third of kids don\u2019t know Christmas is about Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christian.org.uk\/news\/third-of-kids-dont-know-christmas-is-about-jesus\/?utm_source=feedburner&#038;utm_medium=feed&#038;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+christianinstitute+%28The+Christian+Institute%29\" title=\"The Christian Institute reports\" target=\"_blank\">The Christian Institute reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>A third of children aged between ten and 13 do not know that Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, a survey of 2,000 families has found.<\/p>\n<p>The poll also found that only ten per cent of adults can correctly state four facts about Jesus\u2019 birth and half of those surveyed say it is not relevant to their Christmas celebrations. <\/p>\n<p>Christmas Starts With Christ, the group which commissioned the survey, said one problem was how schools discussed the festival. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcurley.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/school-pic-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcurley.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/school-pic-6-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"school pic 6\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcurley.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/school-pic-6-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gcurley.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/school-pic-6.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Misguided<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Francis Goodwin, from the group, said: <em>\u201cBritain is fast becoming one of the world\u2019s most secular countries. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs nations get richer, they think they no longer need God\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He also said there is a <em>\u201cproblem with political correctness in schools\u201d which think \u201cthey should not focus on the Christian roots of Christmas because of inclusivity\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBut it is misguided. People of other faiths are not offended\u201d,<\/em> he commented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Values<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year a survey of 2,000 people showed that 12 per cent of Londoners think the Bible features Father Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>It also showed that seven per cent of the public think Christmas trees are in the Bible, a proportion which nearly doubles among 18 to 35-year-olds.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Hart, Director of The Christian Institute, said at the time: <em>\u201cThis poll shows a worrying lack of knowledge about our country\u2019s Christian heritage that has shaped our history, institutions and laws, even who we are and our values.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Praise God for many opportunities to share the real message of Jesus in Hampshire schools this Christmas!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Third of kids don\u2019t know Christmas is about Jesus The Christian Institute reports: A third of children aged between ten and 13 do not know that Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, a survey of 2,000 families has found.
